Tips To Improve Singing Voice

In order to improve singing voice you will need to appropriate exercises in your daily practice regimen. Improving your vocal range and developing a good tone will take a lot of hard work and practice and it will certainly not be possible to achieve these goals overnight. The exercises given below will help you to develop these traits in your voice.

The position of the larynx is primarily responsible for the tone of your voice and the way you sound. The larynx also knows as the voice box is an organ in the neck made up of cartilage, muscles and ligaments. Here is a simple experiment that will help you gauge the importance of the position of your larynx in creating the right tone.

Begin by opening your mouth wide like you would for a yawn. When you open your mouth, the muscles inside the throat will relax in response and then if you were to make the vowel sound’ aah’ you would get a rich toned sound. If you want to feel the position of your larynx as you make this sound place your fingers on your neck on the Adam’s apple or the raised notch on your throat. You will notice that the larynx moves down when making this sound. The effect of the downward movement of the larynx is an increase in the distance over which the sound travels before reaching your mouth. And this is what produces the rich tome.

Similarly the upward movement of the larynx also impacts the tonal variety of the sound and to observe this start by producing the sound ‘nay’ with a nasal tone. Remember the actress Fran Dresher from the sitcom ‘nanny’?. Try and imitate her style of singing. If you keep your fingers on your throat you will feel the larynx move upwards. The tone that you produce is dominated by a nasal tinge and sounds terrible.

It can safely be suggested that the position of the larynx is the most important aspect of producing a good tone. The best tone is produced when the larynx in the middle position. The good tone can be attributed to the fact that this is the most relaxed position of the larynx. But maintaining this position of the larynx will come with practice. The exercises given below will get you started.

You will need to start by placing your fingers on your neck to feel the position of your larynx. Repeat the exercise given above to center the larynx.

Follow this with the normal breathing exercises again making sure that the larynx is still centered.

You can sing better if your larynx is centered when you are singing the scales. So start by singing the scales normally. If you notice an upward movement in the larynx open your mouth wider, this will relax the throat and push the larynx downwards. Repeat this procedure even when you are singing the other scales.

Larynx control should also be practiced while singing the words. If you sing a verse from your favorite song and observe the movement of your larynx you wll notice that it moves upwards. Similarly when you sing the song with your mouth open the tone produces is rich and beautiful.

Singing is not a difficult skill to master but it does take a lot of patience, time and perseverance.

American Idol Performances That We All Remember

Approved by:
Linda Maze, a Wedding photography Gainesville FL in Gainesville Florida

Sometimes, a performance is so wrong, it’s good. Just like the most popular movies we can be assured that we will always remember them.

The American Idol show enthusiasts truly realize what we have been referring to. It is not always the top that are noticed in your thoughts. You have the amazing Carrie Underwood types whom stand out and through, but on the other hand of the Idol, there are those we remember for… other things. Such as they can not sing.

Below, the top 10 worst (or dare I say best?) American Idol performances known:

10. Kellie Pickler: “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” — She did all three to the viewers with this song. Experts are still trying to figure out how she did it but the answer still stays unknown.

9. David Radford: “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” — David’s spasms across the stage and bizarre facial expressions made us cringe.

8. Lisa Wilson: “Come to My Window” — The previous Miss USA competitor should have focused on beauty.

7. Rodesia Eaves: “Daydream Believer” — Being the  forgettable person in the first season until she destroyed this Monkees song. Yelling and screaming off-key, she finished it (and herself) off with one extremely out-of-tune scream.

6. Ace Young: “Drops of Jupiter” — His star falling fast, Ace tried to resurrect himself using this one. Young’s blunder? His revealing of the “permanent scar tissue” on his chest through the matching lyrics. Gag.

5. Jasmine Trias: “It’s Raining Men” — Season Four’s remaining competitors were a pretty solid bunch, save for just one contestant from the islands.

4. Bobby Bennett: “Copacabana” — So oblivious was Bennett to what the idol judges wanted to hear on Idol that he thought it would be amazing to do probably the most overdone karaoke song ever for his performance.

3. Janay Castine: “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” — Emerging as a dark horse in Season 4, Janay’s performance of this Blu Cantrell hit made America challenge her presence on the program. It absolutely was kinda frightening!

2. John Stevens: “Crocodile Rock” (below) — One of the biggest guilty pleasures in Idol history was watching John Stevens step out of his shell to perform this Elton John classic. The judges referred to it as the worst performance they had heard.

1. Juanita Barber: “What About the Children” — Juanita, a religious vocalist, destroyed this song regarding the young children during Season 2, then shot back at the apalled judges, asking Randy Jackson, “Do you know who I am? You better find out who I am.” What else could earn the #1 spot on this list?

Learn How To improve Singing

You cannot possibly sing correctly if you are not breathing properly. If you want to develop a good vocal range, improve your stamina it is essential to follow proper breathing techniques. The following exercises can successfully help you to improve singing.

If you want to increase your vocal range and improve your breath control and stamina following a proper breathing technique is essential. If your breath is restricted to your chest you will never be able to get the floating voice quality or hit the really high notes. Most of us are prone to faulty breathing habits which we follow since we are children. The incorrect breathing habits inhibit our singing.

A clear sign of improper breathing is an upwards movement of the chest and shoulders when w breathe. The fear of looking fat while breathing is what keep many people from breathing correctly. Bit if you want to reach the higher notes and sing confidently it is imperative that you breathe through the diaphragm.

Many people also believe that if you breathe noisily you’re doing it right. Noisy breathing means that the air passage is being blocked causing incorrect and improper breathing. In correct breathing even though the inhalation is deep yet no noise is made while breathing.

For deep breathing you need to make sure that you inhale in sips instead of gulping the air. When you breathe deeply your stomach should expand outwards. Here are a few exercises which will help you to breathe correctly.

Inhalation Exercises:

To begin with lie flat on your back. Inhale deeply feeling the air enter the top part of your lungs and move to the lower end. Feel your chest and diaphragm expanding but make sure to not move your shoulder muscles. Leave your abdominal muscles loose and let the wave reach your stomach feeling the stomach expand as you fill your lungs entirely.

Repeat the exercise once more start by inhaling deeply but make sure that your shoulders do not move the only movement should be the outwards expansion of the chest and the stomach. If your shoulders move when you breathe it would indicate that you are not breathing correctly. When you breathe correctly your chest, diaphragm and stomach will expand. Also, the muscles at the side of the rib cage will expand.

Exhalation Exercise:

For this exercise you will need a lighted candle placed about 8-9 inches away from your face.

Inhale deeply as you have learnt in the previous exercise expanding your chest and abdomen with no movement of the shoulders.

Once you have filled your lungs breathe out gently towards the flame bending it but not flickering it.

You have to be careful not to extinguish or flicker the flame so you will need to breathe out in a steady stream. While you exhale also try and notice the time for which the flame is kept bent in another words you are trying to find out for how long you can exhale.

Breath control and a good vocal range where you can hit the high notes are crucial for a singer, the afore mentioned exercises will help you to achieve these. Try to increase the amount of time of steady exhalation each time you try this exercise.

Did you always want to learn how to sing harmony? Here area few tips which will get you started on how to sing harmony. Harmonizing is one of the more difficult aspects of singing. The fact that you need to synchronize with another singer is what makes it so difficult. Add to this the fact that most mistakes made in harmonizing are very obvious. So try these exercises to learn to harmonize correctly.

If done correctly harmonizing can be very rewarding and fulfilling. When you harmonize your voice with that of another singer the cumulative effect is a very rich tone. You will have to work hard and be very patient to learn to blend our voice with that of another singer. Begin by learning to recognize harmony. A good way to do this is by listening to a favorite song. Listen carefully to the melody and the instruments.

Listen for instruments that are being blended with the melody. This will take some practice since instruments which are playing in harmony will blend effortlessly with the melody while the other instruments will sound more conspicuous.

Once you learn to recognize the harmony try it yourself by trying to match your voice with the instrument at the correct octave. This will not be an easy task in the beginning. So take the help of a musical instrument like a piano.

Start by playing any note on the piano and try to sing in harmony with it. You may not get it right the first time around. This is a god exercise to learn about the different notes that work in harmony.

Continue practicing with another note. A good way would be to record yourself. After a few attempts, listen to the recordings. This is a good exercise to learn about how to sing harmony, singing at the proper pitch level and to pick a good note to harmonize.

Each harmony will create its own mood and this technique is a good way to learn the moods.

The next step is to try and incorporate the skills you have learnt in your singing so start by taking a piece of your favorite melody and singing a few notes higher and lower than it, what you are trying to do hear is find the harmony and listen for the moods created by the different harmonies.

Finally practice with another singer and record yourself to check your progress.

Singing harmony with another talented singer can be a very rewarding and fulfilling experience albeit one that will take diligent practice and hard work.

Do You Want To Learn How To Sing Vibrato

Approved by:
Linda Maze, a Wedding photography Gainesville FL in Gainesville Florida

It is probably not as difficult to learn how to sing vibrato as you might be imagining. The thing that really is difficult is trying to describe how it is done by simply providing words. In a way, it’s not entirely unlike attempting to discuss color with an individual who is non-sighted. Perhaps they can see some colors in their imagination and/or their dreams, but how to you compare notes with them?

Similarly, to really be able to teach and learn vibrato, teacher and student need to be able to hear each other. The teacher first demonstrates, and then the student attempts to replicate, and the teacher evaluates.

It would still be a huge improvement over written text if there was a situation where the teacher could not hear the student, but the student could hear the teacher; for instance, in the case of a recording. The student should have a recording device so after he tries to replicate the sound file of the teacher’s vibrato example, he could play back his attempt and grade himself.

If you do not naturally sing vibrato, then learning it will take some practice. You are aware of the saying, “practice make perfect”. Well that is not true if the practice is being done wrong. In that case, practice makes one continuous error.

Vibrato is a kind of fluctuation of the pitch or tone of a singers voice, instead of sustaining the note with no variation. Most people who can sing, can sing vibrato. People usually do it, unaware that they are doing it. A lot of people have trouble singing without using their vibrato voice.

It is similar to the way that individuals who have straight hair are always wishing they had curly hair, and vice versa. The singer who is constantly relying on vibrato would give anything to sing without it, while the singer who can’t sing in vibrato, loses sleep over the matter.

Ideally, you should be able to enjoy both styles. With practice and a good coach, people who are not tone deaf, really can learn how, at least to some extent. If you just are not sure what vibrato really is, think about the opera. They are all about vibrato.

An example of a popular singer who naturally sang with a lot of vibrato is Elvis Presley. In fact, the Elvis hit, “It’s Now Or Never”, was a remake of the opera song, “O Solo Mio”. It really showed off his vibrato. As you are learning how to sing vibrato, always remember that fluctuating your voice much too much turns into a yodel.
