Water Tank Boom

With the general community seemly more environmentally aware and worried about global warming, they are trying to do their bit to help. Rainwater tank installation will catch the rain from your roof making this water available instead of using mains water. Rainwater down the stormwater drain will also be minimal due to it going into your rainwater tank instead.

There are many parts of Australia that are affected by the lack of rain.  The effects of the drought in rural areas have flowed onto the metropolitan areas. A lot of Australia’s major cities have severe water restrictions.

Until recently, many people in rural areas had never run out of rainwater in their water tank. But now they have to buy larger water tanks as a backup supply to compliment their existing stocks of drinkable rainwater.

Water restrictions imposed by the government, local councils and water government are now something every consumer has become customary to. Water restrictions have become necessary with Australia’s population growth and global warming stretching our precious water reserves to their limits.

A few years ago many local governments, councils and water authorities introduced a water tank rebate scheme to encourage the general public to invest in their own rainwater tank. It is far more economical for the government to encourage everyone to install their own rainwater tank than for them to build new dams.  It is also better for our environment not to have so much water run-off that alters the water table and natural flow of rivers.

The introduction of water tank rebates sparked a boom in the water tank manufacturing business with many environmentally conscious people installing a couple of water tanks. This has sparked a huge rise in water tank manufacturing companies on the east coast of Australia in order to cope with the huge demand driven by the new urban market.

The bubble in the rainwater tanks boom has now set off and there is an over-supply of water tank suppliers. This is great for the consumer but not for the smaller struggling water tank manufacturers. Many small family owned manufacturers and resellers have shut down due to brutal competition.

The rainwater tanks boom has been fantastic for the plumbing industry. It is law to have your water tank installed by a licensed plumber if it is to be used to flush the toilet and plumb into the laundry to use in the washing machine.  In order to receive the maximum water tank rebate offered by the government, it is also compulsory to have a plumber sign off on the installation of the water tank.

The introduction of the BASIX regulations has been another bonus for the rainwater tank industry. BASIX is the building sustainability index, which is an assessment tool developed by the NSW Government, to guarantee that natural resources such as energy and water are preserved.

Simply, BASIX is intended to reduce the impact of new living accommodations on the environment. The BASIX tool presently assesses the probable performance of planned new housing against various sustainability indices, including landscape, stormwater, water, thermal comfort and energy.

All new developments have to comply with the BASIX regulations, which include the installation of a water tank for every new house or major renovation. Builders and developers are now lining up to buy rainwater tanks in order to have their buildings comply with new regulations and to be signed off by local authorities.

A lot of builders are discovering that due to high demand, the availability of rainwater tanks is sometimes scarce.

Some water tank manufacturers are in such demand that waiting up to 12 weeks for delivery for rainwater tanks is common. A 12 week wait for water tanks is to the extreme but a wait of 2 to 3 weeks is more common.

If you are lucky enough to find a water tank supplier with the rainwater tank you want in stock, it will be a lot quicker but you may not always get a choice of where your fittings are positioned and the choice of colours may be limited. In order to avoid this, it is best to order your rainwater tank well in advance.

Water tanks are here to stay; they are not a passing trend. Rainwater tanks are soon becoming common place in the backyard. They are environmentally friendly and it’s a very liberating feeling to be able to use the rainwater collected off your roof that would otherwise simply go down the drain.

For anyone who is a gardener that has a limitless supply of water, think of yourself as blessed.

You will find most of us who reside in drought areas where the garden and lawn watering laws are very constrictive to the healthy development of gardens and plants. Many individuals just give up after they learn how few gallons of water they are permitted to use, but many of us have just found methods to deal with less water. There are numerous methods to optimize ones garden to save water while still keeping it flourishing.

Drip irrigation is one method of preparing your garden, (this is where small holes are drilled in a pipe or hose and the water will slowly sink to the plants roots. Plants that require the same volumes of water can be placed together in a group thus eliminating particular plants becoming overwatered. Laying mulch or compost on your gardens will help to keep the soil moist and so decreasing the quantity of watering.

By doing particular things you can be confident that you’ll keep your garden looking vibrant throughout the drought period. Sometimes a drought will be predicted far in advance, or those already going through a drought will probably be given a couple of weeks of heavy rainfall. Adding a rain water tank prior to the rains will make you ready to catch the water once the rain does come. Many individuals feel that this really is unnecessary as we get our water from the town. As soon as the rain water tank is put in it doesn’t need any work and will save you lots of water.

Your main problem now will be in choosing a rain water tank that will meet your requirements. Rain water tanks come in avariety of different sizes and shapes and colors, so you have to know exactly where you are going to place your water tank before you buy one. Nowadays you can put your rain water tank anywhere, even underground so you don’t use up any space in your backyard.

The goal of your rain water tank would be to catch the water runoff from your roof and this is merely done by hooking up a downpipe to your tank. Once the pipe is attached you are able to forget about it. In just a few heavy showers you’ll have enough water to begin using your tank. Now you don’t need to wait for your specified time to water, you can water whenever you like.

As we know that utilizing the cities water supply we’re billed for any excess water we use which isn’t difficult to do. By adding a rain water tank we’re reducing the amount of water that we require from the city supply and so reducing the water cost. Washing your car could be one more way you are able to put your water tank to effective use, also for those who have a swimming pool you can fill it and what about washing the dog! As soon as you realize whenever you use water around the house you will be amazed on how much water you’re saving.

Individuals will always comment on how lovely and healthy your gardens look especially when there’s a limited supply of water. In the long run the outlay for your water tank will pay off as it will decrease the volume of water you use from the city supply and also reduce your water bill.
