Surfing has risen to be a popular sport today as acclaimed by people from all over the world. It provides a surge of adrenaline for the thrill seekers. Surfing just like all other sports would demand its own techniques for anyone to perform it well.
Just like the other sports, surfing also has its origin although it’s not really that clear. James King, an American expeditionist, in his accounts dating back to as early as 1779 revealed that locals of Kealakekua Bay in the island of Hawaii had been riding huge waves using wooden boards. It is even believed that the best surfer was heralded as the chief and he owned the best board.
In the modern days, surfing has become widely accepted with a lot of followers, in fact, it has been considered to be part of the Olympic Games, even though it’s still subject to a lot of debates. Surfing holds a considerable promise for its enthusiasts as well as for those who like surf adventures. But what does it require to be a surfing master?
Just like every other sport one must know the game really well, and the same thing with a mountaineer before he climbs a mountain, he must be fully aware of the terrain, in the same way, a surfer must know the different waves before taking the surf adventures. Consider safety first before putting up a show since not all waves are meant for surfing. There are three basic types of waves and one of which is the shore dump wave which rises as it draws near the shore as it has a sharp rise but won’t be able to hold long as it abruptly slams back to the shallow part with such incredible impact. This type of wave is not meant for surfing since it is more likely to cause injuries to the surfer and the swimmers in the shallow waters too.
Another is the rolling waves, this type of wave starts far away from the deep regions in the ocean going to the shore with moderate intensity, it does not die too soon thus giving enough surf for surfers to ride on. This type of wave is good for surf adventures.
Lastly, surging waves are here, these are not the high ones and they continuously hit the beaches and may even indicate a forthcoming storm.
Now being familiar with the different types of waves, you can now go out and make your own surf adventures and make them into great memories. But make sure of your safety still so you’ll still have the chance to tell people about your surf adventures.
