You’ve accomplished recording your album and it’s the best. It deserves to be heard by the world and you’re deserving of the adulation afforded to the production of such a masterpiece! Obviously, you know in your own mind that it will not be easy to become a star.

We reside in an “Instant Fame” society. Celebs and their lifestyles are forced in our faces 24/7 and far too many men and women, particularly but not exclusively the young, believe fame can be achieved. They’re fed the belief that it’s possible to give up the day job and become a star.

In reality, it’s virtually impossible. For a better insight into the realities of the Pop world, take a look at the Simon Cowel book “I don’t mean to be rude”. And even though you’re at it take a look at all of the musicians out there inside the online rock radio world and on the rock music charts by browsing: piano rock sheet music.

Becoming a musician and an artist is actually a vocation. It’s a way of life in which every little thing and everyone else, absolutely everything and everyone else, takes second place. Music artists and bands are selfish. They have to be by definition, and I know mainly because I am one.

It is all about “The Journey”. The journey of self-discovery that begins when you realize that becoming a musician is what you would like to do while it continues and changes as you make music and close friends along the road, experiencing the highs and the lows.

It culminates within the realization that the journey doesn’t have an end simply because you’re always seeking to do something new, often forging new ideas, seeking to write ‘The perfect song’ or ‘The perfect album’. But a word of warning, if you’re fortunate enough to locate success, the pressures as well as the demands will become greater, they’ll not get less!

You see, the most important factor in music is simply that you really like doing it. It’s a way of life that is in your blood, inside your soul, and it takes precedence over everything else. And as mentioned earlier, it is about the journey.

Being involved in music is about being in it for the long haul, not the short term – you do not even look at the short term. Ask most musicians and they’re going to tell you the process is a painful one. When I hear young artists say they’ve ‘given up everything to be in music’, my response is, that they have no idea what “everything” is!

So, finally, what’s the distinction between a musician and someone who desires to be a musician? It is simple. A musician is someone who gets on with it. They step outside the box of conventional 9-5 and all that comes with it and live the life that it all involves.

They probably will not make it big, but they establish their own success and whatever happens, they will never lose sight of why they’re doing what they are doing.
