The fuel handling systems must likewise be correctly upheld.  Having properly trained crew and personnel is crucial.  Regular inspection of the fuel system for leaks is another essentially relevant thing.  Smoking, especially within restricted confines, is sternly prohibited, and it is a requirement that passengers and crews are informed of it.  In addition, operation of fuel systems must be done under strict supervision.

Electrical equipment must also be regularly examined.  That includes checking of the insulation for seepages and checking for exposed wires.  An important reminder is to switch off electrical devices when not in use.  An average person should know this basic accountability.  Besides, prolonged use of all machines of more than the recommended period is risky.  Chemicals should be appropriately kept. There are substances that cannot be kept in the same spot.

It is essential that fire detection devices are installed in various areas.  However, total reliance on these devices is not clever.  Even if the vessel is properly provided with such detection method, manual checking should be done regularly.  There should be assigned staff to do rounds during specific schedules.  Machinery and equipment should be inspected for any unusual noise and vibration.  Hazardous areas should be armed with gas detection devices to guarantee safety of the employees.
