At the 2010 Teen Choice Awards last month, pop star Katy Perry didn’t let down the crowd with her excellent hosting, singing, and costume choices . Changing into seven costumes in addition to her other stage wear , Perry made sure to mock every single high-school cliché with her getups.  Her costume included rock-chick, geek, goth, hippie, cheerleader, prom queen and strapless strips. It’s hard to say which teen costume was the favorite of the night, they each were so hysterical and on target .

even so, we did love it when she let loose with her inner geek in a Jean jumpsuit, huge glasses and outrageous headgear.  Oh how we felt her pain and awkwardness ! On the other end of the social spectrum , Perry also named herself prom queen (that’s one way to win the title) and dressed up in a prom costume complete with frothy tea length dress, rhinestone tiara and Prom Queen sash. Perry’s Twighlight-inspired Goth costume with long rave black wig, leather dress, combat boots and pale makeup with red lips are sure to be a popular Halloween costume this year with all the vampire craziness going on in teen land .

Don’t imitate Perry’s teen costume choices , dressing up as Katy Perry herself is a quite colorful costume idea. Katy Perry has done a great job selling herself as a retro sex symbol, a mix of Betty Paige and other pin up girls. Go as a modern version of a 30s-style pin-up costume based one her short-shorts and vampy bra tops that she sports at her many singing performances .   Perry also love to enhance her costumes with her own designer twists – adding a pair of whip cream bottles, lollipops or cupcakes to her bra top. Change your whole persona by letting your imagineation run wild and channel your inner Katy Perry.

Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

Actor Ryan Reynolds showed up at the 2010 Comic-con to spread the word about the new Warner Bros. superhero flick, “Green Lantern” expected in 2011.  The actor came to Comic-con wearing the Green Lantern Power Ring and answered questions for all fans. Mr. Reynolds was reported to have even recited the famous Green Lantern oath for a small boy in attendence. Green Lantern’s suit is a prominent feature of the new film.

At the appearance the famous suit was no where to be seen . “Where is it, we want to see it,” the crowd demanded. I mean, if Ryan’s out promoting his superhero motion picture, shouldn’t he be suited up in the proverbial Spandex .   Sit down for this; apparently the suit was fashioned entirely from CGI, so he never actually wore the suit for filming. Another non-traditional element of the Green Lantern costume is that it does not feature the signature white gloves that were part of the crime-fighters ensemble in the comics and cartoons.  Actually, Reynolds admitted he thinks the white gloves were “lame” but reassured the convention-goers that “the fanboys and the people new to the character are going to love it (the Green Lantern costume).”

Of course, if you are interested in a Green Lantern superhero costume, you’re not going to be able to rely on computer-generated images – you’re going to have to suit up the old-fashioned way. The new costume comes as a skin tight superhero suit with a padded muscle chest. The great thing about having these built-in, padded muscles is that you don’t have to hit the gym to look ripped. To complete the disguise an eye mask is included so no one will recognize you on the street.

Another necessary accessory  for any Green Lantern costume, Hollywood or Halloween bound, is the power ring. This ring has magical capabilities and has been described as “the most powerful weapon in the universe.” The power ring can translate language, split atoms, be summoned from a distance – whatsoever the wearer wills to happen, the ring will execute or build. The only restriction of the Green Lantern’s ring is that it has to be recharged by flame from his personal battery, the Lantern. Good thing the Green Lantern costume version works of regular, store-bought batteries!
