What is the meaning of hydroponics? It’s as easy as growing plants without using soil rather it utilizes liquid nutrient solution. As a kid, I recall viewing the Sci-fi series “Space 1999” and hearing mention of the “Hydroponics Lab”, and never really putting it together just what that meant. In truth, I looked at this as science fiction gobbledygook. Nonetheless, it didn’t come out as I was expecting to be, it was just like several things in science fiction.  Hydroponics in fact exists in real life.

How can you grow plants without soil?

This kind of hydroponic requires the roots suspended in an air chamber where it is presented with nutrient solution in fine mist. And because the roots are not hanging in the solution, the plant will get superb aeration which can be an advantage.

Medium Culture

In medium culture, the plants are grown in different medium rather than soil. This might be peat moss, to vermiculite, wool, or gravel.
It has been discovered that rock wool is one of the greatest mediums to be used for this kind of hydroponics. The medium does very well at holding water, and allowing drainage simultaneously. It is created by melting rock, and spinning it down to a fiber matting.

Just like a greenhouse, hydroponics is a manipulated scenario usually present in this type of surroundings to make plants grow.

Some down sides to hydroponics are that the method results in the growth of salmonella and other bacteria. However, if you’re a diligent hydroponics farmer, you’ll be able to absolutely stop this from happening, anyhow, there is a lot more benefits than drawbacks to it.
