If you are an amateur wedding photographer or you are just new to the wedding photography, you might be wondering what the professionals do that they make the whole thing look easy. These are the six important wedding photography tips that you should be aware of for they will make all the difference in the world.
1. You need to discuss with both the bride and groom about the style of photography they are leaning to or are thinking about. You need to know from them what kind of style they want you to perform – natural light, surrealism, photojournalism or portraiture. Allow them to look over some samples to make their final decision on the style.
2. You should also discuss with the couple what wedding photography poses should or should not be included in the finished album. Let them choose from a checklist of poses so you will know which to avoid and which to look for at the event. If you do not have a checklist, download one from online and give that to them for perusal.
3. Discuss with them the possibility of having a second photographer to help you out if their budget permits it. The second photographer can take the more informal and candid shots while you can concentrate on the couple. This will also relieve you of some tasks which can be difficult if you have to deal with both the formal and informal shots.
4. It is good to visit the event locations for you will be able to get familiar with both places . Locate all the wall sockets in the two locations, make a sketch if you need to, and then measure the distances if the sockets are too far away so you can bring the right length of extension cords for your equipment.
5. Make a checklist of your equipment that you need to bring with you. You have to prepare all of the equipment and place them in the carryalls the day before the wedding so you can just get up and go . You have to ensure all extras are ready as well, for this will make your job easier and faster.
6. Avoid listening to unsolicited advice from well meaning friends or relatives regarding the style and poses that you are to take. Do not go against the plans of the couple for that would be a major blunder. If they get disappointed because you included something they did not agree on then your reputation could be at risk. Tell the well meaning family member or guest that you have talked to the couple and cannot go against their wishes.
