Is learning to play guitar something that you have always wanted to do? If so then there should really be nothing stopping you. After all, you can do just about anything that you put your mind to with the proper tools and resources. But what kinds of resources will you need when it comes to learning how to play guitar?
Well first you need to decide which learning path fits you the best so that you know which method you will use. The primary things most think about when determining the best method to learn are schedules and money. The main methods for how to play guitar are getting a private instructor, taking group lessons, or buying a self-paced course to learn in your own time. There are a few advantages to each method.
Private instruction is great if you have the time and the money. It will always be the preferred method as long as you can fit it into your schedule and can afford the pricey lessons every week. There are a couple of problems with this method though. First of all, it is the most expensive method. To pay someone up to $100 per lesson can get very expensive very quickly. The second problem is the time component. You actually have to have the time to make sure and make it to the class every week or however often your sessions are. Of course learning how to play guitar takes time no matter what but in this case you have to be there at a specific time every week.
The advantage of group lessons is that they are a little less expensive but they still require the time commitment. Just Remember, the reason they cost less is because you don’t get as much personalized attention.
The last method to learn how to play guitar is to get a guitar course that is self-paced and has a professional instructor. If you haven’t figured it out yet, the biggest advantage to this for most is the lack of time constraints. You save the expensive of haing to be somewhere at a specific time and a guitar lesson is as simple as putting a DVD into the player. The second advantage is an obvious cost advantage. The cost is often isn’t much more than a single private lesson would cost and you can get a years worth of teachings. Also, you may spend as much time you need on each section, repeating as much as needed when learning how to play guitar with this method.
One such course and by far my favorite is Learn and Master Guitar. Steve Krenz is the instructor. He is a recording artist in Nashville and he has a passion for teaching others to play guitar. The course includes a workbook that includes exercises to follow along with, CD’s to listen to and play along with a band, and DVD’s to watch as if in a one one session with Steve himself. It includes approximately one full year of complete lessons. Learn and Master Guitar is a must have if you are going to go with this learning style.
