Considering the fact that the 2012 election to win the Presidency is just over just over a year away from now, itÕs the perfect time to glance at the ever-changing field of likely Conservative Candidates who might try and defeat President Obama.

Mitt Romney looks more and more like a favorite as a Republican in the 2012 election . Once a popular Massachusetts governor and 08 candidate for President, Mitt Romney now age 63 continues to be boyishly charming, intelligent, and brings an amazing track record to bear. As far as the downside, his Mormon religion plus the Massachusetts health care law (which is akin to President Obama’s unpopular recently passed health care bill) might turn voters away from Romney.

Sarah Palin burst to the GOP scene during the last presidential cycle, and even though she did a great job in firing up the Republican faithful, she also made a whole variety of now famous gaffes. Unfortunately, the gaffes caught on, and much like Dan Quayle 20 years earlier, Sarah Palin continues to fight against the reputation she received, for being stupid and not at all of a Presidential caliber. That she walked away mid-term from her Governorship in Alaska also probably didnÕt win her a lot of political points. Overall, that sheÕll make a run for the 2012 election cycle seems less and less likely.

Mike Huckabee is an additional popular prospective candidate from the Republicans for the 2012 election. This former AR governor and also a dark horse 2008 candidate that did not receive enough primary votes to win the partyÕs nomination, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for a time during the 2008 campaign, without same deep pockets some of the other candidates enjoyed that year. The host of a show on FOX News, Huckabee remains loved by the GOP base and has demonstrated his power to run a good campaign. Successful fundraising will be the key for just a Huckabee Presidential run.

Newt Gingrich is a huge GOP mainstay for over the past twenty years, perhaps most notably during his time as Speaker of The House. Seen as a brilliant and intellectual man, Gingrich’s personal life may be somewhat marred by a few failed marriages along with his polarizing status with the American population at large. That being said, Newt Gingrich is also a fantastic party organizer and while he has never made a run for President, his candidacy is looking more likely and more probably by the minute.  

Ron Paul, now 75, is the oldest of all of the likely 2012 election candidates, but he has made two other bids for the job, as a Libertarian in 1988 and another time as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, several of Ron Paul’s views are considered Òout thereÓ for right-wing centrists. WhatÕs more, many of his supporters can be so rabid that they are more of a liability than an asset.

ItÕs definitely still to far ahead of time to know without a shadow of a doubt the persona who will emerge as being the right-wing option for the 2012 election. Still, it ought to end up being an appealing election cycle for sure.
