According to the website http://uselectionnews.org/, currently the 2012 political election map is shifting to purple. It is really an astonishing turn for both sides, whom typically turn to certain states for steadfast votes.

In fact, according to the results of an evaluation of Gallup survey information, authored by the revered news magazine Politico, party affiliation or alliance in us states that elected Obama in the fall of 2008 have witnessed a significant move to the center and in many cases to the center right. States who fell on the red or blue, or Republican and Democratic sides, in the past presidential vote currently sway both ways – or end up appearing violet on the electoral map, leaving them competitive or up for grabs at the moment leading into the next US Presidential Election coming up in 2012.

In the 2008 Presidential Election, 3 out of 5 US States fell to the Democrats. Today, only 14 states are still staunchly on the Democrat’s side and most are in the Northeast. On the other hand, during the 2008 Presidential cycle, only 5 states could be called solidly Republican ones. The same amount were considered right-leaning. Most of these states are in the West and include places like Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Alaska and even Kansas.

In the 2010 elections of Congress, there were 8 total swing or purple states. This creates a whole assortment of potential scenarios for the large field of presidential hopefuls. Now, instead of just having Ohio and Florida as the swing states to campaign in, now, presidential campaigns will have to pay extra special attention to places like Pennsylvania which only one cycle ago were staunchly Democratic. And, as the next twenty or so months that remain between now and voting day 2012, both sides will have to vie not only for the nation’s collective attention, but will also have to pander to the swing-state specific issues that could very well get them elected.
