Baseball is referred to the great game for tons of reasons. Baseball  combines the heart of America, the greatest country in history.  Its membership right now includes individuals hailing from seventeen  different nations around the world. Its parks are viewed as shrines by many.  In 1919, philosopher Morris Raphael Cohen described baseball  as America’s national religion. Baseball films have won  Oscars, baseball players have become elected  officials, and presidents throw out the first pitch to begin the  season.

Because of our care for of the sport, its customs and history, the  citizens at RespectTheGreatGame.com are bewildered as to why  the majesty that is  Major League Baseball lets Keith Olbermann to tarnish its  blog web pages with his musings. Sure, Keith Olbermann is a gifted  speaker with a respectable understanding of the great game, but the  nightly tirades on MSNBC can be often targeted at the very men and women  that fill the stands of baseball parks throughout our great land. In  light of this some people have put a web site together to pose a very simple  question, “Why does Major League Baseball allow a person  who delights in hate speech to be linked with it?”

This is definitely not concerned with restricting free speech. Olbermann has every  right to say what he thinks, but so does everyone else. We have heard time and  time again that those in the spotlight should be held to a higher  standard. That applies to political figures, players, singers,  actors and other highly visible celebrities which includes people  who have an every day tv programs used to put out personal beliefs.  When your main platform of choice is exploited to malign, twist, as well as  induce anger, you absolutely need to be called on it. Facts are important  things that can’t be pushed aside; if Obermann in fact participated in  thoughtful dialogue and honest debate, this specific site might not  even exist. But that isn’t the case.

Make sure you consider finding a minute to sign the  petition which will taken to the Commissioner of Baseball to  make it possible for your questions to be noted. They are not implying a boycott  of ANYTHING baseball related.
