Wired nanny cams need a video cord to be run from the camera to the recording device of your choice, whereas wireless nanny cams send the video via a transmitter at the camera and a receiver at the recording device. Usually, the range of such equipment is limited to 300-700 feet, but the wireless cameras come with transmitter/receivers with ranges of up to 1000 (and in some cases, 2500) feet!

So what’s going to be the best choice for me?

The most popular option is the built-in DVR cam, without a doubt . Now yes, they aren’t the cheapest cameras out of the three, but you also have to consider that it also contains the recording device as well (also, most DVR cameras have the upgraded color recording).

Now if you want to install multiple cameras, there can come a time where they may cost more than buying wired or wireless cameras, and then running them to a multi-channel embedded DVR, or VCR using a Quad (a device to split the recording screen four ways ).

From there, wireless cameras are a great idea. Also realize that “wireless” is in reference to the video; the device may still need to be plugged in to an electrical outlet, depending on the model. Wireless cams can at times also incur certain levels of interference with cordless phones, depending on where the camera is placed .

Wired cameras are usually the least expensive, and do not have the same interference issues that wireless cameras sometimes may have. But on the other hand, there may be some wall or ceiling drilling in order to effectively set up the cable(s) without them being seen. In these cases, all-in-one video/power cables are a great way to run a single cable and make the installation much more neat.

Epson printers have  a reputation for getting the job done at a reasonable price. While the genuine Epson ink cartridges are  extortionate  , the compatible epson cartridges for the sx415 are very reasonably priced.

Enough of that, on to the printer itself. Epson’s Stylus SX415 is a multifunction machine, consequently it can print scan & copy. It has a color screen, PictBridge usb port which allows you to print directly from your digital camera, and also has slots for CompactFlash, SDHC, MMC memory cards. Thus you do not need to switch the pc on (if you ever switch it off) .

The Epson sx415  provides  excellent  photo quality. Colours were bright & vivid, skin tones were  nicely displayed  and smooth with very little bleeding. Photo printing is quite slow, but I would rather wait for a great photo then have a poor one instantly! 

 In   normal print mode text was dark and easy to read, close scrutiny would expose a few imperfections but I am being finicky especially at the price these printers are available for now. Its not the  quickest  machine  in the shops  by any means and some  Hewlett Packard’s  and Canon’s are quicker. Draft mode is lightening quick, but codswallop. Documents with graphs and illustrations were vivid and accurate, very  nice  on the eye.

The 1,200×2,400dpi scanner is very good and produced quality scans on both documents and photographs with excellent fine detail on our scanned photos. 

Photo printing and  scanning  are both very good makes the sx415 excellent value for money, considering you can pick one up for under £65 if you  know where to look  .

So don’t plump for a cheapo Lexmark , spend a little more and get yourself a  great  little Epson multifunction machine.
