Position and Posture

The most important of all guitar playing tips is to maintain good posture. It’s no good just slouching around on your bed or on the couch as you practice. In order to become truly proficient at playing the guitar you have to learn to hold the instrument correctly, as well as how to hold your body so that you don’t cause yourself any unnecessary injuries.

How To Pick Correctly

Another tip to help you learn electric guitar is to learn how to hold your pick properly. Ideally, when using a pick to play the guitar, you will hold it firmly but a little loose. If you hold it too tightly, you can risk tiring your arm too quickly. If you hold it too loosely you wont have enough control over the string you pick, and you might even drop the pick completely.

Also make sure to use the right kind of pick. A beginner might want a softer pick because they’re easier on your body and make softer, easier to deal with noises than many other, thicker picks.

Knowing What To Practice

While everyone knows that practice is important, one of the truly great guitar playing tips is to practice arpeggios and chords. By learning chords you will be able to play a huge number of songs very quickly, and by learning arpeggios you will be building a solid foundation to your lead playing. Practicing arpeggios will not only improve your technical ability, but it will also help you anderstand how the notes on the fretboard relate to one another.

Of course, if you really want to get good at the guitar, the best advice I can give is just to keep practicing. You should try and practice every day if you can as it is better to practice little and often rather than once every so often for prolonged periods of time. Be sure to hold the guitar correctly, and pay attention making each note sound clear and crisp.
